Dental Health Care for Chicago Children

The IWS Pediatric Dental Program focuses on both prevention and treatment of dental disease, incorporating core values of access to care and oral health education and awareness. Through providing preventive dental health care in Chicago, we help low-income children in the area to get oral health care education and treatment they need to live a healthy life. Our comprehensive practice includes:

  • Preventive Care (Dental Cleanings, Dental X-Rays)
  • Advanced Pediatric Restorative Treatment
  • Oral Surgery Procedures
  • Space Maintainers
  • Emergency Treatment and Consultations
  • Orthodontics
  • Private Space for Children with Special Needs
  • Prenatal Care

Because most community health centers focus on adults, pediatric dental care for low-income children is not widely available in Illinois.

In addition to pediatric patients, IWS provides dental care to pregnant patients. We understand that maintaining good oral health is an important preventive measure for prenatal mothers. Educating mothers about the importance of oral health also benefits their children.

Dr. Charles Mayo, founder of the Mayo Clinic, stated that “better dental health can extend human life by over 10 years.” Tooth decay is the most chronic childhood disease in America, affecting 50 percent of first graders and 80 percent of 17-year olds. More than 51 million school hours are lost each year to dental-related illness.1

Patient Story:
A mom and dad take their child to the dentist regularly for checkups and preventive care. When the dentist realized that our patient needed braces, she made an appointment with our orthodontist, Dr. Bernie, who started with IWS over 24 years ago.

Dental Assistant Angie and Dr. Hall remember that Dad gave them big hugs and was thrilled and relieved to find out that, thanks to a grant and private donations, IWS offers low-cost braces for families in need.

Healthy Children, Healthy Smiles: The Foundation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry is HSHC®the largest national dentist-led foundation dedicated to children’s oral health. The charitable giving arm of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), HSHC has given or committed more dollars since 2010 to help children than any other dental charity. Since 2010 HSHC has donated more than $4.5 million to support access to care initiatives that have provided Dental Homes to more than 320,000 children in 29 states, plus the District of Columbia.
