Dear patients, staff, visitors, and supporters.

We are committed to your health and the health of our community. As such, we have made some changes to clinic operations and programs to help us limit the spread of COVID-19.

Between now and March 31, 2020, the following changes will be in effect. We will continue to keep you updated on any additional changes that are needed and updates are subject to change based on new developments.

  • We already have a rigorous cleaning schedule in place and we are expanding that even further.
  • The medical clinic will be open for limited services during this time in order to minimize exposure. All patients with appointments that need to be rescheduled will be notified by phone. Beginning Wednesday, March 18th until Tuesday, March 31st or further notice, IWS clinic hours will be Monday- Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The clinic will be open during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2020.
  • We have temporarily suspended sick visits (unless you call ahead first), Well-Child visits, and CHAT services. Prenatal and newborn visits will continue as scheduled. Prenatal and newborn visits will be seen in a separate area of the clinic to separate patients. Counseling sessions will continue via tele-health. Therapists will contact their patients to set up a tele-conference.
  • The dental clinic will be open for emergencies only. Please call 773782.2800 first if you are experiencing a dental emergency such as pain. Walk-ins will not be able to be seen in the dental department. Dental department hours are 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • If you are sick and would like an appointment, please call our main number at 773.782.2800 first! We will connect you to a nurse or provider for immediate attention.
Thank you to our donors and supporters for sticking by us during this difficult time. These decisions were not made lightly and prioritized the safety of our staff and patients over our finances. Our reimbursement rate is already lower than our cost of service, even before we implemented these necessary precautions. We are very grateful for our donors who make it possible for us to make these important choices.

We are beginning to see increased cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Cook County. IWS continues to stay up to date on the current situation and all recommendations made by the CDC, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH). Your safety continues to be our first priority.

Staff at the call center, reception desk, registration, and intake will screen patients who present with illness for COVID-19. Any patient screening positive will be given a mask and isolated in an exam room.

All patients presenting with illness symptoms (via phone or in-person) will be screened by the following staff:

  • Call Center
  • First Floor Reception
  • Registration
  • Intake

Staff will ask patients:

  1. Do you have fever, cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing?

AND

  1. Have you traveled out of the country (see list of affected countries below) OR had close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 in the 14 days before symptoms started?

As of March 9, 2020 affected geographic areas include China, Iran, Italy, Japan, and South Korea.

If you experiencing any symptom or have traveled outside of the country, you will be asked to wear a mask and will be placed in an isolated exam room with the door closed and a provider notified. When you call on the phone with suspected symptoms, you will be transferred directly to a nurse or provider.

Should you have specific questions about COVID-19, we recommend visiting the Illinois Department of Public Health’s website at dph.illinois.gov or calling their hotline at 800.889.3931.

March 3, 2020

The Angel Harvey Family Health Center (IWS) is committed to protecting our patients and staff from infection and illness. Patient and staff health and safety is our priority. The following is an update about coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and our preparations to care for any patients who may have the virus.

COVID-19, spread is thought to occur mostly from person-to-person via respiratory droplets among close contacts. While risk factors for severe illness are not yet clear, it appears that older patients and those with chronic medical conditions are at higher risk for severe illness. No specific treatment for COVID-19 is currently available. There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at IWS.

Please keep in mind and practice these everyday actions to prevent the transmission of all respiratory illnesses.

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not readily available. Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue to prevent the spread of germs and wash your hands after
  • Stay at home if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms until 24 hours after the fever is gone
  • Monitor your symptoms. Seek medical attention if your illness is worsening. Before coming to the clinic, please call ahead to alert us of your arrival and use a mask when you enter the facility.

We will continue to stay informed of the outbreak situation and update you accordingly.
